'All your base are belong to us'
Or: traipsing through digital dust. More like, clawing around looking for words to write.
It 's 00:36, and I'm still up. Just got my LG CED 8080-B CD-RW (it's *old*, I know) working on FC2. Funny, I never did try to write CDs on FC. Always did that on WinXP, using Nero. man cdrecord wasn't much help for me. I used cdrecord2.01.1-0.FC2.1 from Dag's Apt Repository (lots of interesting RPMs there, by the way). Tried to do everything the manual said.
- First, I scanned for the CD-RW:
$ sudo cdrecord -scanbus

cdrecord: For possible targets try 'cdrecord -scanbus'.
cdrecord: For possible transport specifiers try 'cdrecord dev=help'. - Darn. That didn't work. Then it hit me. It was so simple, I'd have to bash my head with the keyboard.
$ sudo cdrecord -v speed=8 dev=/dev/cdrom -dao -eject -data ~/Downloads/WBEL/liberation-respin1-binary-i386-1.iso
Geez. It must be my cold or something.
Anyway, so I got that working. Hooray for me. As for the title, well, it's a tribute to the Zero Wing game intro, a fine digital relic of the 80s. Speaking of relics, several found objects during my recent
temp job as a bodegero in our department's storeroom:
- A TRS-80 user's manual.
- Norton's guide to the IBM PS/2
- Windows NT! ;D
They're still happily residing in the stacks in the storeroom, to be dusted off later by some other network janitor. On with cleaning and plugging.
Move 'zig'.
For great justice.
