Never too late

Catching mice

Image
Photo credits: Stoix Pascua , PhilRice Extension workers in our recent basic ICT training had a hard time using the mouse. Makes me wonder if we are using the right medium for delivering agricultural information to our, er, clients (farm technicians, agricultural extensionists and farmers). Of course, there's always mobile phones and text messaging, but there are technical constraints -- you can only squeeze so much info in that small screen. If only we can find a way to connect our clients through that ubiquitous medium in a richer manner. Mobile 2.0 , perhaps? In the countryside? We'll see.

Yay for WP plugins!

I've been scratching my head on how to create a Google Map mashup for the Pinoy Farmers ICT Roadshow. It turns out I didn't have to reinvent the wheel since smarter people have done it first. I give to you, GeoPlugin and GeoMashup , two amazing plugins to add geo info and create a mashup for blog posts. See it at work at the Pinoy Farmers Internet blog . (Not much to look at yet, but once the Roadshow rolls off, our bloggers will be adding posts so the readers can follow the show.)

Pinoy Tech Scene OPML

Update : Ka Edong gave me a heads-up on Nox 's mirror of Pinoy Tech Scene . Cool! --- Update : Ka Edong , who has been missing Pinoy Tech Scene, wants to know how OPML works. I don't know myself, but it's a convenient way of getting all those blogs in one place. Thanks to Migs , I've come upon OPtiMaL , a web-based OPML browser -- just feed it the URL to the OPML file, and voila! you've got your own aggregator . --- The Pinoy Tech Scene aggregator is currently down -- a blank page shows up on http://techscene.free.net.ph . For those who want the OPML, you can get it from Jan Alonzo , here . Or grab it here . I've also posted the OPML for Ubuntu-PH Planet .

ICT caravan updates

Image
We finally have a schedule for the ICT Caravan . The Caravan will kick off on March 26 in Northern and Central Luzon, and will run until May 12 where the final leg in Bicol. I've plotted the stop-overs in Google Maps. It's still very rough, as I still have to plug in more info as they come through. I'm thinking of harvesting them from status updates that have been placed in a wiki, though I still don't know how to do that.

Metawire woes

My free (BSD) shell account, Metawire.org, is down at the moment. :( Bad, because my resume, wiki and assorted docs are hosted there. Hope it will come up soon. I might have to move some of the contents here.

Yes, but is it art?

Apparently, a 12-year-old boy didn't think so . The boy (who wouldn't stand a rat's chance in Singapore) stuck gum on a $1.5-million abstract painting on exhibit at the Detroit Institute of Arts. The gum left a stain on the "The Bay" by Helen Frankenthaler. Curators and restoration experts are still researching the chemical composition of the gum to decide which solvent to use. The painting -- though it's purity has been stained (heh, just had to say that, sorry) -- is "going to be fine," museum authorities said. The boy, meanwhile, is probably off to MOMA or the Louvre, after being suspended from school. He's got a promising career ahead of him. via Boing Boing .
